This walk is for the budding forager wishing to connect with their local environment with a view to including more natural resources in their life.

These walks are split into two parts with a short break in the middle where you will get to enjoy a little pre-prepared taster of something wild... But foraging is so much more than simply wandering about looking for wild food and on this walk you will learn how to approach the vast and truly ancient and instinctual human activity in a safe and responsible manner - whatever your motivation!

London greenspaces are surprisingly diverse in the habitats offered and subsequent range of species to be found, making them brilliant places to learn dependable nature based skills for use further afield when adventuring into the wild...

Foraging Walk

On a ForagedTM walk you will learn how to identify wild species of plants, trees and fungi while staying safe exploring the natural world through the eyes of a forager whether searching for food, medicine or craft materials. We will stop to look at the various species as we find them and discuss their ID featurers, family relationships, potential uses and/or dangers.

Along with sampling some of the species found along the way there will be a selection of pre-processed items to experience through the senses of sight, taste, touch and smell. For example; tinctures, ferments, preserves, cordials, syrups, sauces, crisps, soup, dehydrated foods, craft items, combustion, natural fibres, fish leather, bark craft and animal track and sign.

The aim of this walk is to introduce both the species and resulting practices that are available at this particular location and time of year - not to harvest lots of goodies to take home! If you’re looking for a more hands-on foraging experience that does involve gathering and processing the full day foraging courses or bushcraft courses may be of interest…
